Just when the USC Trojans looked set to put away the California Golden Bears, Cal went and hit a squeeze play that nearly led to a run. I don't know what a squeeze play is. Zach Maynard, who'd looked challenged for most of the first half while fumbling and throwing an awful pick, drove the Bears into the red zone. And threw another pick. Sigh.
That's four turnovers in 30 minutes of football, with that one killing a very promising drive that could've given Cal the momentum coming out of the half. At the break, USC leads, 20-0. With one more takeaway, the Trojans D will equal its season-long production coming into this game.
USC isn't exactly smokin' on offense, averaging just 3.2 yards per rush and 6.4 yards per pass. A handful of big plays have given them what feels like ... well, it feels like a baseball game that's 20-0.
