South Carolina Vs. Mississippi State Score: Bulldogs' Quarterback Experiment Working Better, Lead 7-0

Both South Carolina and Mississippi State have decided to dump the starting quarterbacks at the beginning of the season and give the reins to the backup. (In South Carolina's case, the dumping eventually included dismissing Stephen Garcia from the team.) So far in Starkville, that change is working out better for one team than the other.

Tyler Russell hit Chris Smith for a 19-yard touchdown pass shortly before the end of the first quarter to give Mississippi State the early 7-0 lead. Russell is 3-of-5 for 32 yards, and Vick Ballard has 23 yards rushing.

Connor Shaw hasn't been that bad for South Carolina -- 4-of-8 for 26 yards -- but Marcus Lattimore has been held to just 15 yards on seven carries, and the offense has sputtered early on. Steve Spurrier will be patient with Shaw, we're sure.
