Jeff Tuel made his return for the Washington State Cougars, but the defense has been the story of the first half. Through two quarters of play, the Stanford Cardinal lead the Cougars, 10-7, but Washington State is hanging around.
Stanford scored the first 10 points of the game, settling for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead and capitalizing on a fumble by Jared Karstetter a short time later. With good field position -- the Cardinal return the fumble to the Washington State 20 -- Jeremy Stewart punched it in on fourth and goal from the one to give Stanford a 10-0 lead.
But Washington State answered, recovering a Stanford fumble and driving down the field for a touchdown. Carl Winston scored from two yards out and the Cougars' defense held before the half.
With 30 minutes to go in Pullman, Stanford leads Washington State, 10-7.
