Coming in to Saturday, three ACC teams were undefeated in conference. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fell to the Virginia Cavaliers, leaving two. If the Clemson Tigers are upended by the Maryland Terrapins, that would leave just the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
But the Virginia Tech Hokies beat Wake, 38-17. This is one of those stories with chronology that kind of jumps around. It's ACC football.
VPI was down 10-0 early on, but Wake Forest wouldn't score again until the Hokies had peeled off 28 straight. The stars came out -- David Wilson, Chris Givens and Jarrett Boykin each went well over 100 yards in his respective trade, while Logan Thomas and Tanner Price both surpassed 250 yards -- but Virginia Tech's defense held Wake to only one third-down conversion in 12 efforts.
