Clemson Vs. Maryland Final Score: Sammy Watkins Leads 18-Point Comeback

Stay connected with SB Nation

Clemson Tigers freshman Sammy Watkins produced 345 total yards, including what turned out to be the winning, 89-yard kickoff return touchdown, as the Maryland Terrapins surrendered a pair of 18-point leads to lose, 56-45.

This was the game we'd all been waiting for. Clemson is supposed to sneak up and pick off a big win, and it's not that shocking to see them do it more than once. But Clemson is supposed to blow it against lesser competition. And when they trailed by three scores in the second half, everyone assumed this was the game.

Nope. You can't attribute much to Clemson's defense, but Watkins and Andre Ellington (213 yards rushing) and Tajh Boyd (307 total yards, four touchdowns) might mean simply too much firepower for any team in the ACC to combat.
