As expected, the Tulane Green Wave made official the firing of head football coach Bob Toledo at a Tuesday press conference. Or resignation, if you prefer. The latter is the technical term in this case.
Offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator Mark Hutson will step up as interim coach. Hutson was previously Eastern Illinois' interim head coach. The rest of the coaching staff will stay put for the time being. Hutson called the news of Toledo's exit shocking, but hopes to reach a bowl game. They play the Memphis Tigers next, so that's a good step already.
Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin said athletic director Rick Dickson met with the team earlier in the morning to alert the Green Wave to the change. During the conference, Dickson decried the lackluster environment surrounding the program during its latest bout of losing.
