Twin titans LSU and Alabama lead the SEC in the Week 6 AP Poll Top 25 and the Week 6 USA Today coaches poll. It makes sense: no other conference has two teams as highly esteemed.
LSU retains its place atop the AP Poll, which helps offset falling to No. 3 in the coaches poll, as Alabama broke a Week 5 tie and moved just two points ahead of the Tigers (1,410 to 1,408) in the Week 6 USA Today poll. Alabama is also No. 2 in the Week 6 AP Poll.
That sets up a colossal match-up in November: LSU will travel to Tuscaloosa in a game that has all the makings of a play-in game for the SEC West crown — which might also serve as a de facto SEC championship and a BCS National Championship Game play-in game.
Other ranked SEC teams include Arkansas (No. 10 AP/No. 12 coaches), up after roaring back against Texas A&M; Auburn (No. 15 AP/No. 23 coaches), which used an upset of South Carolina (No. 14 coaches/No. 18 AP) as a springboard; and Florida (No. 17 AP/No. 18 coaches), which plummets after getting rolled by Alabama.
