John Brantley Injury: Florida QB Reportedly Suffers High Ankle Sprain

Stay connected with SB Nation

The status of Florida Gators quarterback John Brantley still has not been confirmed by the team, but according to one report, he's suffered a high ankle sprain. Brantley left his team's game against the Alabama Crimson Tide just before the end of the first half, and also appeared to twist his knee awkwardly on the play. As Jason Lieser mentioned in the above-linked tweet, there's no word yet on the status of Brantley's knee.

If Brantley does, in fact, have a high ankle sprain, it seems unlikely that he'd be able to start for the Gators next week. Next week's game is against No. 1 LSU at Death Valley, so the Gators were likely to be pretty massive underdogs with or without their regular starter. In any event, they'll certainly stand even less of a chance with freshman Jeff Driskel at the helm, with no disrespect intended to Driskel or the Gators football program. LSU are just a little too good for almost anyone right now.
