Clemson's been one of the 2011 college football season's biggest surprises and one of the nation's most explosive teams. But a suspect defense has given North Carolina the lead early.
After a Bryn Renner interception led to Clemson opening the scoring in Death Valley with a field, the Tar Heels responded with a two-play, 63-yard touchdown drive to claim a 7-3 lead. Renner connected with Jheranie Boyd for the 33-yard scoring strike.
And North Carolina's defense hasn't allowed a big play to Sammy Watkins or the rest of the Clemson offense just yet, holding them to one play of more than 10 yards so far. There's still plenty of time for Watkins to blow up, though.
