USC Vs. Notre Dame Halftime Score: Irish Steady After Opening Salvo

Stay connected with SB Nation

Despite falling behind 17-0 at home, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have made amends and pulled within seven of the USC Trojans at the break (click here for score updates and discussion). George Atkinson III was the first to earn the gold on his extremely gold helmet, running back a kick to put the Irish on the scoreboard. David Ruffer tacked on a field goal late in the second quarter.

Make no mistake, though -- USC dominated the first half. The Trojans came close to neatly doubling up Notre Dame in total yardage, 253 to 127, allowing only 17 rushing yards and limiting Tommy Rees to only 5.3 yards per attempt.

Marc Tyler has been strong for the Trojans, banging out 59 yards in 10 efforts.
