Penn State Vs. Northwestern Final Score: Nitany Lions Find An Offense, Improve To 7-1

Stay connected with SB Nation

Beggars can't be choosers, but at least Penn State found its offense in the first half. By the time the first 30 minutes of the Nitany Lions' matchup with Northwestern had past, Penn State had already rolled up 34 points. Sure, the Wildcats trailed by just 10, 34-24, but we all should've been grateful for the offensive explosion, all things considered.

And then it just stopped. In the second half, Penn State and Northwestern combined for seven points -- scored by the Nitany Lions in the third quarter. As quickly as the bout of scoring came, it went.

Matt McGloin threw for 192 yards and a touchdown in the win, but Penn State did much of its damage on the ground. Silas Redd rushed for a game-high 164 yards and a touchdown to lead the way, with Stephfon Green also adding a score.

Dan Persa threw for 294 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a losing effort for Northwestern. Kain Colter -- awesome football name -- and Persa also scored rushing touchdowns. And just for fun, Persa threw a touchdown pass to Colter.
