Michigan State Vs. Nebraska Final Score: Defense Key For Cornhuskers Victory

The Nebraska Cornhuskers offense was good on Saturday, but the defense is what really should get the credit as Michigan State was held to a single field goal on the road at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska entered the game as the 14th-ranked team while the Spartans came in as No. 11 in the rankings, but that will probably be switched on Sunday after Nebraska's 24-3 victory.

The Cornhuskers finished the game with just 266 total yards while holding the Spartans to just 187 including only 86 through the air. Quarterback Taylor Martinez did what it took to win the Big 10 conference match-up, however, leading three touchdown drives while throwing a touchdown to Rex Burkhead to ice the game.

Michigan State certainly struggled on offense as Kirk Cousins completed only 11 of his 27 passing attempts for 86 yards and an interception. The running backs weren't much better, either, leading to Sparty converting on just three of its 14 third-down attempts.

Nebraska Vs. Michigan State Halftime Score: Huskers D Wins The First

Two one-loss Big Ten teams with a top-10 national ranking (so many numbers) on the line, and it's a 10-3 halftime lead for the Nebraska Cornhuskers over the Michigan St. Spartans. The Huskers nearly shut out Kirk Cousins and his many cousins for the entire half, holding in the red zone in the final minutes to force a field goal try.

For Michigan State-Nebraska's live score, head here.

Daimion Stafford nearly grabbed what could've been a 90-yard pick six during that final possession, but dropped it. Cousins already has thrown one interception on the day.

If you're a fan of passing, you should seek entertainment elsewhere. Taylor Martinez has yet to complete a pass, while Cousins has gone four-of-15. Our top producer is Nebraska's Rex Burkhead, who's averaging 2.9 yards per carry.

Michigan State Vs. Nebraska Score: Cornhuskers Up 10-0 Thanks To The Running Game

Defense has been the story early, with a one-yard Rex Burkhead touchdown plunge and a Brett Maher field goal being the difference so far late in the first quarter, Nebraska leading 10-0 over Michigan State.

Nebraska had to go just 25 yards in seven plays for their first score thanks to a Kirk Cousins interception on the Spartans' opening drive. The Cornhuskers did not throw a pass on the drive, with a mix of Taylor Martinez and Burkhead running the ball down the field.

Michigan State had great field position on their next possession, starting on the Nebraska 38-yard-line following a 62-yard kickoff return by Nick Hill. The Spartans promptly went three-and-out however, leading to a missed Dan Conroy field goal.

After trading punts on the next two possessions, Nebraska found themselves on the one-yard line again thanks to a 39-yard Tim Marlowe run. The Spartans held at the goal-line however, holding the Huskers to a field goal.
