Marquel Wade's Mother Apologizes To Vanderbilt's Jonathan Krause

Something tells you Arkansas' Marquel Wade may have had a less-than-enjoyable conversation with his mother immediately following his ejection against Vanderbilt:

Vanderbilt sophomore wide receiver and punt returner Jonathan Krause said he has received a written cyberspace apology from not only Arkansas freshman Marquel Wade, but also his mother.

"I got an apology from him and his mom ... Facebook, Twitter," Krause said. "It was his mom that sent the letter (via Facebook). It was nice of her to take her time out and send the letter."

Marquel Wade Suspended For South Carolina Game, SEC Announces

The SEC has announced Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver Marquel Wade has been suspended for the team's upcoming game against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Wade was ejected last weekend after laying out a Vanderbilt Commodores punt returner who didn't even have the ball, then carrying on about it all the way to the locker room

Wade apologized on Monday, saying he thought Jonathan Krause has the ball before the hit. You can watch the video here.

Coach Bobby Petrino, known for commenting briefly, commented briefly on the news of the suspension:

We have addressed the matter and will comply with the league's decision.

On offense, Wade has nine touches for 99 yards on the season, with his two best games coming against New Mexico and Missouri State. His primary contributions have come on special teams.

Marquel Wade Hit: Arkansas Player Apologizes For Play That Earned Ejection

Arkansas Razorbacks wide receiver Marquel Wade was sent packing from his team's game against the Vanderbilt Commodores after unloading a vicious shot on punt returner Jonathan Krause. You can see video of the hit here, but you can't see what happened afterward, when Wade gestured at Vandy fans on his way to the locker room.

His explanation? He thought Krause had the ball:

Robbie NeiswangerNWARobbie WR Marquel Wade behind microphone now. He's apologizing for Vandy ejection: "I was wrong. I thought he had the ball."

Plausible, actually, but what made the hit so much worse was the gloating in celebration, both instantly and on the sidelines. Shouldn't somebody have, like, mentioned to him why he'd been flagged, if he didn't know?

Don't be surprised to see either Arkansas or the SEC to levy some sort of punishment on Wade. Lots and lots of people saw it, and there wasn't much of any positive reaction to the play.

VIDEO: Arkansas' Marquel Wade Ejected For Inexcusable Hit On Punt Returner

Was this the dirtiest hit of the year so far? You won't find any argument from us here. Watch as Marquel Wade of the Arkansas Razorbacks drills Vanderbilt Commodores punt returner Jonathan Krause before the ball even arrives -- with the crown of his helmet, no less. To make it even worse, he then bounded around gloating about it.

Yes, Wade was ejected for this (video via @cjzero):

The good news is Krause was able to make it to his feet and off the field without too much assistance. He was down on the field for a few moments while Wade hopped on the sidelines. The announcement of his ejection had Vandy's crowd cheering while he huffed and puffed a little bit. Coaches escorted him into the locker room.

Vandy football has gotten notably more intense for all parties involved this year, but this is clearly way, way too far.
