Heisman hopeful Kellen Moore leads No. 5 Boise State against former WAC and future Mountain West Conference rival Fresno State.
Heisman hopeful Kellen Moore leads the No. 5 Boise St. Broncos against the Fresno St. Bulldogs, two former WAC rivals will resume a conference rivalry when Fresno State joins the Mountain West Conference in 2012.
As he continues to rewrite the Boise State record books, Moore has completed 101-of-138 pass attempts for 1,137 with 14 touchdowns and four interceptions in the four weeks of the season. Junior wide receiver Mitch Burroughs leads the Broncos with 21 receptions for 216 yards, with true freshman Matt Miller hauling in 20 passes for 206 yards. Senior Tyler Shoemaker is the Broncos touchdown-maker, as six of his 13 receptions on the season have resulted in touchdowns. Senior running back Doug Martin's slow start is a concern. After running for 2,025 yards and 27 touchdowns over his sophomore and junior seasons, Martin has just 328 yards and four touchdowns through four games this season.
The Bulldogs are 2-3 on the season, and 1-0 in the WAC via a 48-24 road win over Idaho. Fresno State is coming off a 38-28 home loss to Ole Miss. Junior running back Robbie Rouse leads the nation with 26.6 carries per game, gaining 600 yards and scoring four touchdowns. Rouse has topped 100 yards rushing in each of the last four games. Continuing to pound the ball against the Broncos would take some pressure off sophomore quarterback Derek Carr and keep Moore off the field.
