Its unlikely we'll know much more about LaMichael James' injury in the near future, but it did appear the Oregon Ducks' all-everything running back suffered a serious elbow injury on Thursday night. After stepping out of bounds a play earlier, James took an inside hand-off and was swallowed up by the Cal defense. As he went to the ground, he reached out with his right arm, and came down awkwardly with his elbow bending in a gruesome direction.
James' arm was immobilized in a sizable air cast as trainers attended to him for a significant amount of time on the field. He was then place on a cart and driven off the field, all the while appearing to be in serious pain. James was taken straight from the field to the nearby athletic department building, not the locker room. It's unclear what the extent of his injuries are at present.
With James out of the game, and potentially longer, Oregon will turn to Kenjon Barner and, perhaps, DeAnthony Thomas to shoulder the load in the backfield. The two are more than capable, but James has been the star of the Ducks' rushing attack, both this season and in years prior.
