Notre Dame Vs. Air Force Score: Irish Up Big Early, 42-16

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had the ball six times, and scored six times in the first half, dismantling Air Force early to race to a 42-16 lead. Tommy Rees was clinical, throwing touchdown passes to four different receivers in the half as Air Force struggled to stop the Fighting Irish's attack.

Rees completed 21 of 27 passes for 228 yards and four touchdowns in the half. Jonas Gray led the way on the ground, carrying the ball six times for 63 yards and a score. Cierre Wood also added a touchdown on the ground. Theo Riddick, Tyler Eifert, Michael Floyd and Robby Toma each caught touchdown passes in the half.

Air Force actually wasn't overmatched, at least in terms of offense. The Falcons racked up 311 yards of total offense, just behind Notre Dame's 332, but also turned the ball over twice.

Notre Dame heads into the second half up big in South Bend, leading Air Force 42-16.
