No surprise for the SEC in the Week 7 college football rankings: LSU and Alabama lead the SEC in the Week 7 AP Poll Top 25 and the Week 7 USA Today coaches poll.
LSU stays at the head of the AP Poll and No. 2 in the coaches poll, while Alabama is No. 2 in the Week 7 AP Poll and No. 3 in the coaches poll. The rankings don't matter much at this point; what matters is that, one week before the initial BCS standings for the 2011 season come out, the two best teams in the SEC West are on a collision course for a November showdown that might decide one berth in the BCS National Championship Game.
The only other ranked SEC teams are Arkansas (No. 10 AP/No. 11 coaches), which moves back into the top 10; South Carolina (No. 13 coaches/No. 15 AP), which moved up after throttling Kentucky; and Auburn (No. 24 AP), which stayed ranked despite a losing to the Razorbacks. Florida, ranked in both polls last week, is first in the "also receiving votes" portions of both polls.
