College Football Rankings: Big East's Lone Representative In Week 7 Polls? West Virginia

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Week 7 AP Poll Top 25 and the Week 7 USA Today coaches poll aren't so kind to the Big East: only West Virginia is ranked, and the Mountaineers are only in the top 15 of one of the the two polls.

West Virginia (No. 13 AP/No. 16 coaches) has just one loss, to top-two team LSU, and has beaten all of its other opponents by a touchdown or more, topping 30 points in all five wins and scoring 40 or more points three times. But the Mountaineers, for all their success so far under Dana Holgorsen, will probably top out at no better than the Big East champion, thanks to their weak conference.

South Florida, Cincinnati, and Rutgers are the only other one-loss teams left in the Big East, and West Virginia must travel to face all three. Don't bet on the Mountaineers beating them and vaulting into BCS National Championship Game contention.
