Garrett Gilbert Transferring From Texas To SMU, Can Play In 2013

Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Garrett Gilbert will transfer to play for the SMU MustangsKate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday. He won't be eligible to play until 2013, at which point SMU will probably be in the Big East. Oh the sights you'll see while flying to Idaho and Connecticut, Mr. Gilbert!

The move had been reported for about a month now, and has been broiling since Gilbert lost his starting job to Case McCoy and David Ash. Gilbert had been named Texas' Day 1 starter, but didn't look much better than he did in 2010, when he threw 17 interceptions to 10 touchdowns. His completion percentage plunged by 10 points, to boot.

Working with June Jones should be a boost for Gilbert's college career, not to mention playing against Big East defenses instead of Big 12 defenses.
