The South Florida Bulls will be looking for their first Big East win of the 2011 season and keep their hopes of a sixth straight eight-win season alive when they travel to western New York to take on the 5-4 Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome on Friday night.
After a 4-0 start to the season, the Bulls have dropped four straight, the two by a field goal, including an overtime loss to Rutgers last Saturday. The Bulls are averaging over 200 yards rushing and passing per game this season, with Darrell Scott (611 yards, five touchdowns) and quarterback B.J. Daniels (440 yards, four touchdowns) leading the way. Daniels has completed 160-of-269 pass attempts for 2,008 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions this season as Sterling Griffin has a team-high 40 receptions for 493 yards and two touchdowns.
It's Homecoming Weekend for the Orange, who are also mired in a mid-season slump, dropping two straight after their 5-2 start. Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib leads a balanced attack, completing nearly 65 percent of his pass attempts for 1,960 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. Running back Antwon Bailey has 798 yards and six touchdowns on the season, topping 100 yards in five of the first seven games. During the two-game losing streak, opponents have limited Bailey to 136 yards on 31 carries and kept him out of the end zone.
