Wake Forest Vs. Clemson Score: Tigers With Early Defensive Problems, Tied 7-7 In Second Quarter

Stay connected with SB Nation

A 14-point loss to Georgia Tech last week ended Clemson's darkhorse hopes for an undefeated and potential national championship season. Early on in Saturday's game against Wake Forest, the Tigers still appear hungover from the loss, especially on defense, with the game tied 7-7 early in the second quarter.

It's no secret that Clemson's strengths lay mostly on the offensive side of the ball. Still, the defense has struggled much more than expected against the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest has 138 total yards through a little more than one quarter of play, mixing the run and the pass to positive effect. The Deacons' went 73 yards on 12 plays on their touchdown drive, capped by a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tanner Price.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd has struggled mightily early on, starting the game 4-for-8 passing for 67 yards and an interception. A loss on Saturday would be a major blow to the Tigers, who are still in prime position for a BCS bowl if they can win out.
