West Virginia Vs. Cincinnati Halftime: Mountaineers Build Lead As Collaros Goes Down

Stay connected with SB Nation

Cincinnati looked poised to take the Big East and run away with it, perhaps putting together a respectable one-loss season before heading to the BCS as the league's AQ team. You knew it wouldn't be that easy, right?

After an early touchdown by the Bearcats, the Mountaineers have raced out to a 17-7 halftime lead, putting them on the verge of an upset that would make the race for the Big East that much more complicated. After a first-quarter touchdown, West Virginia scored on a 28-yard field goal and a Julian Miller fumble return to build the 10-point lead.

That fumble could end up costing the Bearcats more than the game; quarterback Zach Collaros was carted off the field afterward, a loss that could prove significant to Cincinnati over the season's last few weeks. His backup, Munchie Legaux, is 1-of-5 for minus-1 yard passing, though he has also has 13 yards on a pair of rushes.
