The Clemson Tigers were able to escape a near-upset at the hands of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon, as its kicking game came through in the clutch to pull ahead 31-28 on the final scoreboard. There was quite a bit on the line, too, as Clemson was able to clinch a spot in the ACC title game with the victory.
The Tigers actually missed their first potential game-winner when Chandler Catanzaro missed a 30-yard field goal with less than two minutes remaining, but after the Clemson defense was able to force a quick punt from Wake Forest, Catanzaro was able to redeem himself with a 43-yard field goal as time expired.
Wake Forest looked like it was on its way to a sure victory when they opened the third quarter with three consecutive touchdowns to lead 28-14 midway through the third quarter. A pair of touchdown passes from Tajh Boyd knotted the game up at 28 points apiece with five minutes to go, however, allowing a whirlwind final five minutes to ensue.
