At some point, someone will have to win the Big East. But it's going to be difficult to do it, given the way the conference has been turned upside down at various points this year. West Virginia, itself seen as a candidate at various times, upset Cincinnati 24-21 Saturday in a game that could prove significant as the season moves on.
Both teams had precisely 404 yards of total offense, with West Virginia passing for 372 of those yards and Cincinnati going more toward balance -- 208 passing, 196 rushing. The bigger news of the game for the Bearcats might have been the status of Zach Collaros, who was hurt in the game. His backup, Munchie Legaux, was shaky -- 9-of-20 for 138 yards and an interception.
Cincinnati still has a one-game lead in the standings, but has yet to face two of the teams with a pair of conference losses: Rutgers and UConn. And with Collaros out, who knows what might happen.
