Michigan Vs. Illinois Score: Denard Robinson Leads Wolverines To Early Lead

Stay connected with SB Nation

The Michigan Wolverines are clinging to their spot in the national rankings as they entered their game with the Illinois Fighting Illini as the 24th best team in college football. Denard Robinson, the dynamic quarterback, took a nine-yard keeper to the end zone to give the Wolverines the early lead.

Robinson capped off the opening-drive score quite nicely, but it was running back Fitzgerald Toussaint that did the majority of the heavy lifting. Robinson handed off to Toussaint for rushes of 65 yards and six yards before the quarterback capped the first drive off with a nine-yard run of his own.

The Illinois offense hasn't moved quite as efficiently, however. The Fighting Illini have gone three-and-out on their first three possessions as quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase isn't able to get anything going through the air -- or on the ground, for that matter, as he's rushed twice for a total of four yards.
