Oregon Vs. Stanford Final: The Luck Runs Out For The Cardinal, Ducks Win 53-30

The Stanford Cardinal had won 17 straight games, the longest active streak in the FBS division. Their last loss was against the Oregon Ducks, who snapped the current streak tonight in dominant fashion. It was a rough night for Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, who threw for just 227 yards with 3 touchdowns, but also threw 2 interceptions. Turnovers killed the Cardinal, as they had five total for the night after just seven turnovers for the rest of the season.

The Oregon Ducks offense rolled right along like it has all season, most of it on the ground. LaMichael James once again made a push to be in the running for the Heisman Trophy, picking up another 146 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on just 20 carries. As a team, the Ducks ran the ball for 232 yards. The Ducks had just a 6 point lead at the half, but poured it on and Stanford just couldn't keep up.

With Stanford no long undefeated, there is an outside chance the Ducks can get back into the National Title picture.

Oregon Vs. Stanford Score Updates: Dangerous Ducks Gain Distance

The Stanford Cardinal are in trouble in the third quarter against the Oregon Ducks. Another Andrew Luck turnover led to another Ducks touchdown, this time a four-yard rumble by LaMichael James, whose arm fell off in that one game a few weeks ago. He's OK. It's now 36-16, Oregon.

The yardage game is similar (272 to 236, Oregon) and the turnover battle is even. The Ducks have been able to strike quickly, while Stanford's put together some accomplished series that don't amount to a whole lot.

James and De'Anthony Thomas have been the stars, along with Thomas. James has two touchdowns and 110 yards on 14 touches.

If Stanford can't pick up its pace while slowing Oregon's, we could be looking at another team exiting this week's top five.

Oregon Vs. Stanford Halftime Score: De'Anthony Thomas Is A Racecar

The play of the night so far: Oregon Ducks freshman De'Anthony Thomas gathered in a Darron Thomas screen on fourth-and-seven, then vanished and reappeared in the Stanford Cardinal end zone. Pretty sure his Signing Day to-do was worth it for Oregon. It's now 22-16 at the break.

Andrew Luck struck back in the closing minutes of the half, lasering a 13-yarder to Griff Whalen to complete an 84-yard, 2:28 drive. Andrew Luck is pretty great at sports, no matter what contrarian analysts may try to tell you.

Only 410 (only) total yards at the half, but a flurry of excitement toward the end. If the momentum in this one keeps going, we could be looking at a mighty watchable second half.

Oregon Vs. Stanford Score Updates: No Extra Points, Please

The game of the equinox or so started out looking like the game of the century, with both high-powered offenses delivering rare three-and-outs. The Oregon Ducks were the first on the scoreboard, taking advantage of a gruesome Andrew Luck interception.

Darron Thomas passed to Lavasier Tuinei (pass the Lavasier) for six, then David Paulson found Mike Garrity on a USC-esque two-point conversion. Eight points!

The good news for Stanford: that's about all the offense Oregon has mustered. The other good news: a 13-play, 78-yard drive followed, capped by a Griff Whalen touchdown catch. But the bad news: a missed extra point. Nobody will score seven points, but fans of points will probably end up liking this game more than they did last week's.

Thirteen months ago, Oregon annihilated Stanford over the game's final three quarters, utilizing speed and offensive diversity in the process. Will the same script work tonight, or will the Cardinal handle the Ducks a little better with some home cooking?
