College Football Standings: Clemson, Virginia Tech On ACC Championship Game Collision Course

Stay connected with SB Nation

The ACC has no chance of a team making the BCS National Championship Game, but the conference will still place one team in the BCS. It's almost a certainty at this point. that that team will be either Clemson or Virginia Tech.

Clemson leads the Atlantic Division with a 5-1 conference record. The second-place team in the division, Florida State, has one more conference loss, but fell to Clemson, so the Tigers have what amounts to a two-game lead. And Clemson has just one more conference game, at North Carolina State in Week 12, so the Tigers are assured of a spot in the ACC Championship Game.

Virginia Tech leads the Coastal Division with a 5-1 conference record, but doesn't have the same cushion Clemson does: second place Virginia plays the Hokies in its season finale. And the Hokies have to get through North Carolina in a primetime game this Thursday to get to that game against the Cavaliers.

If that ACC Championship Game happens, though, the Hokies will be hoping for a different outcome in a rematch: Clemson thumped Virginia Tech, 23-3, in Blacksburg earlier this year.
