Gus Malzahn To North Carolina Rumors Have Hit Spousal Twitter-Monitoring Stage

Is North Carolina trying to land Auburn assistant Gus Malzahn?

Wednesday, Auburn Undercover reportedly reported that Auburn Tigers offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn "has emerged as the clear front-runner" for the soon-to-be-available North Carolina Tar Heels coaching job, according to College Football Talk. Auburn Undercover is a pay site, you see.

UNC blog Carolina March cautioned patience, even though Malzahn has working ties with new UNC AD Bubba Cunningham from their days with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

The latest piece of evidence, though, could only possibly come from the Auburn side of the equation. From AL.com's Evan Woodbery:

An alert Twitter follower of Malzahn's wife, Kristie, noticed that she had started following the mayor of Chapel Hill, N.C., the police department, the UNC student newspaper and other UNC-related feeds on her publicly viewable account.

The Twitter activity tab is the 2k11 private plane tracker, apparently. The DEAD GIVEAWAYS have either been removed or buried beneath all sorts of varied accounts on her follower list. She's not newly followed by very many Heels fans though, which, you know, it's basketball season.
