Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno has a treatable form of lung cancer, his son has revealed.
Friday afternoon, the Associated Press reported former Penn St. Nittany Lions head football coach Joe Paterno has a form of lung cancer, according to his son, Scott. The coach, 84 years old, was recently removed from his position due to the Jerry Sandusky scandal after 46 years on the job.

Paterno's health has long been a matter of concern to former players and onlookers. In an apparently related development, Paterno had visited a local hospital Wednesday night for treatment of some sort. His lawyer, which is handling all communications requests for the time being, declined comment at the time.
Scott Paterno has functioned as something of a spokesperson for his father for the past few weeks.
His Penn State exit was not without controversy, as many students and fans expressed outrage at his firing. He maintains a home just off campus with his wife.
