The No. 24 Auburn Tigers will host the Samford Bulldogs Saturday in a rare non-conference November game. Auburn has an FCS opponent to take the edge off last week's brutal loss to Georgia as they try to position themselves for a better bowl game after being knocked out of the SEC West race.
The Tigers are 6-4, with losses to Georgia, LSU, Clemson, and Arkansas, and, playing in the SEC West, have had an absolutely brutal schedule. Heading into the Alabama game, arguably the nation's nastiest rivalry, the logic of scheduling Samford at this point in the season had to be to rest up. The Tigers may have no shot to repeat as national champions, but they can sure ruin Alabama's season.
The Tigers have relied on a steady diet of running back Michael Dyer, who has rushed for 1,037 yards in 10 games, to make ballgames competitive, thanks to a quarterback situation that's been less than stellar. Quarterback Clint Moseley threw for four touchdowns against Ole Miss, but threw for just 140 yards and an interception against Georgia.
Game date, time: 1 pm ET, Saturday, Nov. 19
