The Eastern Michigan Eagles couldn't complete the one-year transformation into a bowl-eligible team, falling 18-12 at the paws of the Northern Illinois Huskies. Stakes were high for both teams -- NIU put itself into the MAC title game for the second consecutive time, moving to 9-3 overall in its first year without Jerry Kill.
Chandler Harnish didn't have his best aerial day, throwing for only 98 yards on 19 attempts, but ran for 148 and a touchdown. EMU quarterback Alex Gillett amassed 214 total yards of his own. Harnish put together a 68-yard touchdown run and a 54-yard scoring pass to Willie Clark, and that was just about that.
NIU advances to play the Ohio Bobcats for all of the MACcolades at Ford Field on Dec. 2. The two haven't met so far this year.
