The Washington State Cougars came within inches of making the 2011 Apple Cup meaningful for both teams before falling to the Utah Utes in overtime last weekend. Instead, the Apple Cup, the traditional rivalry with the Washington Huskies, is the Cougars' bowl game. For the Huskies, Saturday is for better bowl placement, with both sides are battling for state bragging rights, as well.
The Cougars are limping into the matchup, having lost starting quarterback Jeff Tuel earlier in the season to a broken collarbone. Redshirt freshman Connor Halliday led the Cougars to an upset win over Arizona State then nearly made it two-straight, but will not play this week after suffering a lacerated liver in the loss to Utah. Washington quarterback Keith Price played sparingly in the Huskies' loss to Oregon State last week, but should be good to go for the Apple Cup.
The Cougars and Huskies continue their rivalry as Washington plays host to its in-state rival at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Here's the information for Saturday's Apple Cup.
