The Black Friday college football schedule came to a close in the desert with a good old fashioned shootout between the Arizona State Sun Devils and California Golden Bears. In front of a lackluster crowd, Arizona State put up a fight, but was unable to slow down the Bears in the fourth quarter in a 48-37 loss.
The Sun Devils hung close throughout the game, taking a one-point lead into the half with a one-point lead following two Brock Osweiler touchdown passes in the final minute. A field goal out of the half gave the Sun Devils a four-point lead, but Cal battled right back. Three minutes later, C.J. Anderson found the end zone from three yards out, giving Cal a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Arizona State was able to cut the Bears' lead to three at the end of the fourth quarter, but Cal rattled off the final six points of the game, on two Giorgio Tavecchio field goals, to secure a 47-38 win.
Isi Sofele rushed for a team-high 145 yards and a touchdown in the win for the Bears. Anderson scored two touchdowns, adding 48 yards on the ground. Arizona State running back Cameron Marshall rushed for a game-high 153 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Arizona State fell to 6-6 with the loss while Cal improved to 7-5.
