UCLA Receives Bowl Waiver, Waves White Flag

Stay connected with SB Nation

No matter what happens on Friday, UCLA will be going bowling. The Bruins come into the Pac-12 Championship at 6-6 on the year and facing an Oregon Ducks team favored by a little over four touchdowns. A loss would knock the Bruins below .500 on the year, technically preventing them from going bowling.

But never fear! UCLA preemptively applied for a bowl waiver, and the NCAA granted the request.

"As a program, we appreciate the NCAA approving our petition for a bowl waiver," said UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero in a release. "We will be able to give our 18 seniors one more chance to represent their university and end their collegiate careers on a high note, regardless of the outcome of this Friday’s Pac-12 Championship Game. We’d like to thank the NCAA for considering the unique situation in which we find ourselves this year and rewarding us with this opportunity."

There's jokes about UCLA waving the white flag here, but we'll just congratulate the Bruins on their bowl game while applauding them for being both proactive and realistic.
