No. 24 Southern Miss faces Conference USA rival East Carolina on Saturday.
No. 24 Southern Miss. Golden Eagles will be seeking their eighth win of the 2011 season when they visit the 4-4 ECU Pirates in Greenville, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles moved into the Top 25 following their 27-3 win over SMU on October 22 and remained there after last week's 31-13 road win over UTEP. Southern Miss is one of ten FBS schools that is averaging over 200 yards per game rushing and passing. Despite missing the last three weeks, Kendrick Hardy still leads the team with 426 rushing yards. Jamal Woodyard, Jeremy Hester and Tracy Lampley have picked up the slack, combining for 965 yards and eight touchdowns, most of that production coming while Hardy is out. Golden Eagles quarterback Austin Davis has completed 175-of-274 pass attempts for 2,014 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season.
After a 1-4 start to their season, East Carolina is in must-win mode to keep their bowl streak (five straight) alive. The Pirates' offense has been clicking the last three weeks, averaging 496.3 yards during their current three-game winning streak. Over that stretch, quarterback Dominique Davis has completed 97-of-128 pass attempts for 1,008 yards with six touchdowns and one interception.
