Southern Miss' offense scored 14 points. East Carolina's offense scored 28 points. The bad news for East Carolina is that they also count the points that come from defense and special teams play, and there were more than enough of those points for Southern Miss to make up the difference as the Golden Eagles won 48-28.
As far as he offense for Southern Miss, Austin Davis was 16-of-24 passing for 133 yards and one of the offenses two touchdowns. A half-dozen rushers cobbled together 137 yards and the other offensive touchdown, a 3-yard dash by Desmond Johnson.
Dominique Davis wasn't terrible at quarterback for ECU -- 22-of-36 for 262 yards and two touchdowns -- but he threw a pair of interceptions, and both of them were pick-sixes. Take those away, and it's 34-28, and maybe a different game. But again, they count those kinds of things when they calculate the score, no matter how much East Carolina might wish they didn't.
