South Carolina had a brief moment of hope that it might hold a lead against Arkansas for longer than a few seconds. That hope was quickly dashed on a kickoff return that once again gave the Razorbacks a three-point lead.
Arkansas' offense had been struggling to actually put points on the board against South Carolina's defense, putting together two drives that got onto the Gamecocks' half of the field but having to settle for field goal attempts -- one good, one bad -- that gave the home team a 3-0 lead.
The Arkansas defense, on the other hand, decided to help South Carolina's second drive make its way down the field with a couple of false-start penalties and a personal foul for good measure. Brandon Wilds eventually closed out the touchdown with a four-yard run.
Arkansas responded on the next play from scrimmage, Dennis Johnson returned the kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown. It's 10-3 at the end of the first quarter.
