After two LSU Tigers defensive struggles bailed out by missed Alabama Crimson Tide field goals, the Bayou Bengals took over with a chance to score on their second drive. But Jarrett Lee bobbled a snap and fired with bent knees, throwing his first pick in 100 passes. Robert Lester came up with the ball, LSU's first turnover in a month.

Bama found itself with the ball closer to the end zone than it had managed to reach all night. The first quarter ended, 0-0, after Morris Claiborne broke up an on-target A.J. McCarron end zone strike. Marquis Maze was picked off by a sniper while performing an end-around, and soon it was Cade Foster time again.
After missing a 50-yarder and a 47-yarder, Foster saw his 49-yard effort blocked by Bennie Logan. Eric Reid recovered, and ... special teams, y'all.
LSU sent Jordan Jefferson out at quarterback in place of Lee.
