LSU Vs. Alabama: Tyrann Mathieu Hit Costs Tigers 30 Crucial Yards

Stay connected with SB Nation

A penalty on Tyrann Mathieu cost the LSU Tigers 30 yards worth of field position late against the Alabama Crimson Tide, severely jeopardizing perhaps their last chance to break the 6-6 tie. During a kick return, Mathieu lashed Dre Kirkpatrick from behind with a clothesline, earning a 15-yard penalty that also nullified Odell Beckham's kick return.

Kirkpatrick was ruled out for the rest of the game with both a shoulder injury and dizziness.

With just over three minutes to go, Jordan Jefferson ran the ball from LSU's 19 to the 38. Fun fact: that was LSU's second-biggest offensive play of the night. But no matter: Mark Barron silenced a Spencer Ware run, and Brad Wing took the field.

Wing stuck Alabama inside the 20. Two minutes remain.
