Northwestern Vs. Nebraska Final Score: Purple Punishes Huskers In Lincoln

The Nebraska Cornhuskers got perhaps their rudest Big Ten welcome yet, a 28-25 home battering at the paws of the previously 3-5 Northwestern Wildcats. Until a last-minute scoring drive, the Cats outgained the Huskers by 100 yards, by committee every step of the way. Kain Colter, Dan Persa and Trevor Siemian worked together to throw for 261 yards, while Colter led a 209-yard rushing attack that featured six carriers.

The crazy part! Northwestern lost the turnover battle.

The Wildcats won in very Husker fashion, holding the ball for the majority of the game and running the ball 54 times. Taylor Martinez threw for 308 and ran for 53, but Rex Burkhead was held to 50 yards on 21 attempts, and no other Huskers rusher did anything of note.

Things could get even worse for Nebraska, which has to travel to face stern Penn State and talented Michigan before welcoming Iowa.

Northwestern Vs. Nebraska Score Update: Upset Alert Intensifies For Huskers

They've had to use three different quarterbacks to do it, but Northwestern is keeping Nebraska on the ropes as time winds down. The Wildcats have a 21-10 lead in the fourth quarter in Lincoln.

Nebraska had dared to show a little bit of life when down 14-3, with Taylor Martinez completing a touchdown pass to Tim Marlowe to put the Huskers within four. Northwestern eventually responded early in the fourth quarter, tacking on a touchdown on an 81-yard reception by Jeremy Ebert to put themselves in front by 11.

Playing in relief of the injured Dan Persa, Kain Colter and Trevor Siemian are a combined 7-of-10 for 182 yards, a touchdown (Colter) and an interception (Siemian). Colter also rushed for Northwestern's second touchdown of the day and seems to have taken over the reins for now.

Northwestern Vs. Nebraska Score: Wildcats Lead Nebraska In Low-Scoring Big Ten Game

Northwestern is on its maiden voyage to Lincoln in a Big Ten conference game, and it's been so far, so good for the Wildcats early on. NU leads NU ... er, Northwestern leads Nebraska 7-3 as we approach halftime, a Jacob Schmidt two-yard touchdown run being the difference in the game so far.

Most of the Wildcats' yardage has come from the arm of Dan Persa, who's 9-of-14 for 79 yards. The ground game has not been a insignificant factor, but it's spread over several players. Persa is tied with Treyvon Green the team lead in rushing, with 19 yards.

For Nebraska, Taylor Martinez is 12-of-14 for 110 yards. Rex Burkhead has run the ball 14 times for 51 yards. And Brett Maher has booted a 36-yard field goal to give the Huskers their only points.

Nebraska Vs. Northwestern Game Time, TV Schedule, Spread And More

Last week was essentially a wild success for the Northwestern Wildcats, as they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers 59-38 to win their first Big Ten game of the year. They're not remotely likely to do as well this time around, though, while facing the No. 10 Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road Saturday.
