South Carolina Gamecocks starting quarterback Connor Shaw ended his team's loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks in about the worst possible way on Saturday, taking a nasty hit. On Sunday, Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier stated that Shaw is being evaluated for a concussion and that he will sit out practice early in the week. If Shaw does indeed have a concussion and is unable to play, Dylan Thompson would step into the starting quarterback spot against the Florida Gators.
Shaw has been the on again, off again starting QB for the Gamecocks this year thanks to various issues surrounding senior Stephen Garcia. Garcia was dismissed from the team in October and Shaw became the undisputed starting quarterback. Shaw has respectable numbers, completing nearly 63 percent of his passes along with six touchdowns and four interceptions so far this season. Thompson is a redshirt freshman who has only attempted two passes this season, both coming in the blowout against the Kentucky Wildcats.
