Sam Houston State Vs. Montana State Halftime Score, 2011 FCS Playoffs: Bearkats Lead Despite Elvis Akpla's Catch

Stay connected with SB Nation

National No. 1 seed Sam Houston State was expected to roll past unseeded Montana State in the two teams’ match-up in the quarterfinals of the 2011 FCS Playoffs. Despite one of the best catches in college football this season, the Bearkats are doing just that, and lead 21-6 at halftime.

Sam Houston State has rushed for 194 yards, with Richard Sincere and Brian Bell both topping 60, and Bell has thrown for two touchdowns and run for another in building the Bearkats’ big lead.

The spectacular play of the half belonged to Montana State’s Elvis Akpla, whose insane one-handed catch is destined for highlights shows on Saturday night and for the rest of 2011.

But Sincere made his own highlight reel play, hauling in a tipped pass and breaking a tackle to score the Bearkats’ third touchdown of the half. And Sam Houston State blocked a Montana State field goal that would have cut the lead to 12 points as time expired in the second quarter.
