This Maine Black Bears defense, which famously shut down Appalachian State last week, is getting a workout from the Georgia Southern Eagles. GSU has held the ball for 25 of 30 minutes so far, but things could be worse. It's only a 21-10 lead for the Eagles in Statesboro.
The winner of this game will advance to play either Lehigh or North Dakota State. If NDSU wins that game, they'll host next week.
The star of the game, actually, might be the GSU defense, which has held Maine to only 60 yards worth of offense, 47 of which came on a single catch by Damarr Aultman. The lone Black Bears touchdown came on a 91-yard Roosevelt Boone kick return. Jaybo Shaw's Eagles offense has put together 286 yards so far, including 52 by Dominique Swope.
A Warren Smith interception and a fourth down conversion for Southern have helped limit Maine's chances.
