Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Star-Advisor is reporting that the Hawaii Warriors have targeted three coaching candidates to head up their football program for 2012 as they are set to join the Mountain West Conference.
The Warriors wrapped up their final season in the Western Athletic Conference by finishing with a 6-7 record and going 3-4 in WAC play.Head coach Greg McMackin, who had been overseeing the program since 2008, resigned from his position on December 5.
For a potential replacement, the Warriors are said to be looking at Oregon State Beavers defensive coordinator Mark Banker, City College of San Francisco head coach George Rush and UH director of personnel George Lumpkin.
Banker is the biggest name of the three. He previously served as assistant head coach for the USC Trojans in 1996 and for the Stanford Cardinal in 2002. He has been the defensive coordinator for the Beavers since 2003. Banker has Warriors ties as well, serving as linebacker coach for Hawaii in 1995.
