Urban Meyer continues to improve the Ohio State Buckeyes' recruiting. Ohio State welcomed another strong weekend of recruiting visitors, and prospects from all over the Midwest and the Eastern shore.
The top name from the weekend is defensive tackle Tommy Schutt. Schutt, formerly a Penn State commitment [note: some still consider him a Penn State commitment], is rumored to have committed to the Buckeyes. However, the top-five defensive tackle has not come out and said it himself, so it remains unofficial. Several Ohio State sites are reporting that Schutt will commit to the Buckeyes any day now. I'll leave it up to the kid and not spoil his moment, but OSU people are very confident on this one. The Meyer effect is certainly being felt in Happy Valley right about now.
Elsewhere, here's Noah Spence, the top uncommitted defensive end in the country, on Urban Meyer and Ohio State:
"He's a great guy," Spence said. "I feel like he wants to win and I want that, too. I feel I'll get a lot of playing time if I work hard and come out and be focused, so it sounds like a good place."
Spence then had this exchange via twitter:
Spence is another recruit who once considered Penn State and would now be considered a longshot to sign with the Nittany Lions.
Offensive tackle Jordan Diamond (Chicago) on OSU and Urban Meyer:
"It went well," Diamond said. "He brings a lot of energy. He's a great a coach, a great coach. A great person, too. He's a high-motor guy, and that's what I look for in a coach."
As covered in a previous update, Meyer continues to be all over Ohio offensive tackle Kyle Dodson, who is committed to Wisconsin.
