Orange Bowl 2012: West Virginia Tickets Sales Slow

When the West Virginia Mountaineers takes on the Clemson Tigers in the 2012 Orange Bowl, they might not be doing so in front of too many WVU fans. At least not if ticket sales keep up the way they've been going (via WVIllustrated.com).

According to Sports Marketing Director Matt Wells, WVU's ticket sales are just over 5,700 as of Monday morning. The university was given 17,500 total tickets to distribute, but sales have been slow.

"The fact that we have 17,500 tickets and we've only sold about 5,700 of them shows that we have a lot of tickets that are not going to be sold," says Wells. "There are several factors that play into it, but the fact of the matter is ticket sales aren't as strong as we hoped they'd be."

West Virginia has traditionally traveled well but some issues could be the mid-week status of the game (requiring longer trips and time off work), the lack of significance to the match-up with Clemson or just the fact that the Orange Bowl itself hasn't sold well in recent years.
