Craig James Considering Senate Run, Taking Leave From ESPN

Stay connected with SB Nation

ESPN's Craig James may run for Senate. Yes, that Craig James.

As had been reported locally, ESPN analyst and former SMU Mustangs running back Craig James is likely going to run for United States Senate in Texas. The Associated Press reports James "has been granted time away from ESPN" while he ponders the decision.

Of immediate interest to college football fans, there's the note that James won't call the Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl on Dec. 20. He's also scheduled to work the Holiday and Gator as well.

This is a very tough choice James has in front of him. Here's hoping he takes a long, diligent, studious, careful and extensively researched look at all of his options, then sits and thinks about them for a lengthy period of time, then starts asking extremely wordy people what they think about the whole thing, and then carves out some quiet time he can spend on debating it some more. No need to rush into this and jump right back in the ESPN booth.
