The 2011 Division II Championship Game has reached halftime, with Pittsburg State holding a 27-14 lead over Wayne State. We've enjoyed hearty portions of holiday HAM throughout, with the Warriors grabbing the opening touchdown on a kickoff return and the Gorillas scoring by way of blocked field goal.
Rooting interests for the unaffiliated observer are tough to deduce. On the one hand, Wayne State's logo kind of looks like the Wu-Tang Clan's. On the other, Pitt State's medical personnel wear camo snapbacks. PSU's nickname is also the Gorillas. Tough calls.
Three turnovers, including two picks by Mickey Mohner, have limited WSU and blunted an early 14-0 lead and Toney Davis' 113 yards rushing. Zac Dickey is among the top performers for the Gorillas, with 128 yards passing and another 38 on the ground, while John Brown holds 93 total yards already.
This is the first-ever postseason trip for Wayne State. Pitt State is angling for its second national title and its first in two decades.
