The Temple Owls wasted little time scoring the first touchdown of the 2011 college football bowl season. Senior running back Bernard Pierce ran in a score from two yards out to give Temple a 7-0 lead in the first quarter against Wyoming in the 2011 New Mexico Bowl.
Pierce ran for 31 yards on the Owls' opening drive, which featured a fourth down conversion. Quarterback Chris Coyer found Evan Rodriguez on a 40-yard pass play to get the Owls deep into Wyoming territory, but the run-pass balance on the drive was indicative of coach Steve Addazio's run-heavy approach. Temple attempted just two passes on the 13-play, 90-yard drive.
The touchdown that capped it was Pierce's 52nd for Temple, extending his school record.
