Mike Sherman Was Fired Over The Phone, In A Recruit's Driveway

I'm not saying it was right, but this whole situation at Texas A&M was awkward to begin with, so this ending was kind of fitting. Mike Sherman was fired over the phone on Thursday after word Texas A&M's intentions leaked to the media. The leak forced athletic director Bill Byrne's hand, resulting in a bit of an awkward situation.

Oh, and Sherman was about to step into a recruit's home.

He had just pulled into the driveway of a recruit's home Thursday night when Athletic Director Bill Byrne called to dismiss him. Sherman was disappointed the news leaked to his family and players before he was told.

He says: "I think we're better than that."

Sherman reportedly met with school officials earlier in the day to clarify his status, but no guarantees were made. So, like a good coach, he decided to hit the road and get back to work. And while he was on the road, word about the impending coaching change hit the media.

Guessing he called off that meeting with the recruit, but hoping he peeled out in the driveway and hit a mailbox in anger.

Seems like Texas Public Universities are filled with back-stabbing, unethical political appointees. Funny how honor is not important to them any more.
